Swedish Massage is a relaxing and therapeutic style of bodywork. It combines oils or lotion with an array of techniques such as rolling, kneading, and percussion to help the body improve its circulation. The benefits of this type of bodywork are wide-ranging and include relief from aches and pains, decreased stress levels in the body, enhanced mental clarity, improved appearance, and greater flexibility.
Orthopedic massage focuses on treating painful conditions that affect the soft tissues of the body. Orthopedic massage is designed to treat medical conditions, and requires extensive training, integrating several types of massage techniques. It involves releasing tense muscles, helping to stretch and lengthen tight muscles and tendons so that overstretched ones can relax; and it decompresses rigid joints. My goal is to restore full health to the soft tissues of your body, treating your specific conditions as well as improving your overall well-being.
Deep Tissue Massage aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body. Deep Tissue Massage is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and 'muscle memory' of past lingering injuries. Due to the nature of the deep tissue work, open communication during the session is important to make sure you are always comfortable. Keep in mind that soreness is common after the treatment. Drink plenty of water before and after, to help flush and remove toxins that will have been released from the tissues during the session. A series of 6-8 or more sessions are generally required to shift the muscle and body memory of injury or pain effectively.
Healing Touch, a form of energy therapy is a deeply relaxing therapeutic practice. I have worked with clients to reduce stress and pain generally, restore emotional balance, feel rejuvenated, facilitate healing pre and post-operatively, facilitate wound healing, manage pain and energy levels and emotional balance during cancer treatments, move a kidney stone, and reduce back and neck pain. Healing Touch works well alone and in conjunction with other mainstream or alternative or complementary care modalities.
As my massage practice grew, I became more and more aware of the role the bio-electromagnetic field of the body has in affecting and shifting our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual dis-eases. In 2014, I became a Practitioner of Healing Touch, a modality which I see best bridging the mainstream and complementary medicine worlds. I have done well over 100 hours of documented sessions, along with various forms of written and class work within this rigorously structured study program, the first 'energy medicine' program to be certified by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). The goal of Healing Touch is to restore harmony and balance in the human energy system by creating the best environment for the body's innate tendency for healing to occur. Practitioners consciously use their hands in light or near-body touch in a heart-centered and intentional way. This touch is intended to clear, balance and energize the human energy system to promote healing for the mind, body and/or spirit. Healing Touch is used in private practices and clinical settings alike. A growing body of empirical evidence and research underlies HT’s 30 years of practical application and development by nurses and other medical practitioners. See healingtouchresearch.com for detailed research studies in the energy medicine field.
In Healing Touch, client self-care and self-healing practices between sessions are strongly encouraged to re-pattern what no longer works. Toward supporting these ends, I am developing a simple workshop format to teach clients and 'lay people' about energetic structures (starting with the basic chakra system) and how to use energy medicine "at home." This is only intended to support and further, not to replace, the professional study of Healing Touch, Therapeutic Touch, Reiki, or other energy medicine modalities that already exist. I charge my regular hourly fee for clients who would like to deepen their self-healing practice with a 'mentorship'. Please contact me for more information about this!
I am excited to be expanding and deepening my bodywork practice to include this deep, powerful, and ever-expanding field of healing!
Integrative massage therapy is a term I use to 'explain' a typical massage session with me. This personal style incorporates Swedish, Deep-Tissue and Orthopedic massage techniques with my energy sensitivity and experience, providing you with a "tailored to you" session addressing specific areas of chronic pain or tension as well as providing general relaxation and overall balance.
